Awards

The Bay Area Restoration Council's Implementation Awards recognize the efforts of organizations or individuals in implementing the goals of the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan (RAP).  They are presented annually at BARC's Annual General Meeting.

Sharon Gilmour-Glover - Outstanding dedication to the Burlington Bluecreeks Program

CUMIS Group Limited - environmental leadership by adopting a segment of Grindstone Creek
Tys Theysmeyer, Royal Botanical Gardens - dedication to the restoration of Cootes Paradise
Gary Kirkwoord, Alternate Choice Inc. - contributions to BARC's Stream of Dreams program

2008
City of Hamilton's Water and Wastewater Division - implementation of the Children's Water Festival
Hamilton Waterfront Trust - implementation of the Hamilton Harbour Fishing Derby
Nancy Bouchier and Ken Cruikshank - production of "The People and The Bay, the Story of Hamilton Harbour" film documentary

2006 - Hamilton Waterfront Trust - enabling people to use and enjoy Hamilton Harbour's waterfront

2005 - Hamilton Industrial Environmental Association (HIEA) - improving the local environment through its collective actions and through individual member company's efforts

2004 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada - participation in the restoration of the Bay since the RAP began in 1992

2003 - Hamilton Spectator - consistent reporting of environmental issues over the years, and for the production of the "Bringing Back the Bay" Special Series in 2002

2002 - Royal Botanical Gardens - involvement in key aspects of the RAP and its exemplary efforts toward restoring Cootes Paradise marsh

2001 - McMaster University - contribution of scientific and social understanding of the issues affecting the Hamilton Harbour watershed, and significant in-kind support of BARC

2000 - Dofasco - efforts to improve water quality in Hamilton Harbour and its involvement with local non-governmental organizations working to improve the environment

1999 - Regional Municipality of Halton was - optimizing the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant

1998 - Conservation Halton - ongoing work with the Hamilton-Halton Watershed Stewardship Program, the development of the Grindstone Creek Watershed Plan and its efforts in restoring fish and wildlife habitat

1997 - Hamilton Region Conservation Authority - influence on the restoration of the Hamilton Harbour watershed

1996 - Hamilton Harbour Commissioners - construction of habitat islands at LaSalle Park and the northeast shoreline

1995 - Royal Botanical Gardens - Project Paradise

1994 - City of Hamilton Parks Development - for the revitalization of Bayfront Park
