Yellow Fish Road™

Yellow Fish Road™ is a program that educates students and the public about the impacts of pollution entering urban storm drains. Yellow Fish Road™ volunteers paint yellow fish symbols beside storm drains and distribute fish-shaped brochures to nearby households. This program reminds people to properly use and safely dispose of hazardous household chemicals, rather than allowing them to enter curbside storm drains.
Why Bring Yellow Fish Road™ to Your Students?
The water quality of Hamilton Harbour is important for the many kinds of wildlife that call the bay home. The dumping of hazardous waste into sewer drains is a significant source of water pollution. Once in the sewer system, it is either sent directly to a creek or the Harbour, or to a wastewater treatment plant (which also eventually discharges to Hamilton Harbour). Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to handle hazardous materials. Yellow Fish Road™ creates awareness about human interaction with the environment and our potential to have a negative or positive impact.
